WTB: Azureglo 4001

I’m unicorn-hunting… searching for an Azureglo 4001 fro
the toaster pickup and checkerboard binding era (‘73 and earlier). If anybody has one they are thinking g of selling let me know!

Is that really how much an early ‘70s Azure is worth now, even in the States? Mine’s like that but with a few less dings, it hasn’t got a chunk out of the headstock, and it has original wavy Grovers.

Wasn’t planning on selling mine - it took me 17 years to find - but that’s a lot of money, and mine should be worth more…….!

I have a spare set of tuners but I’m afraid they’re not for sale, given that 2 of my basses have wavy Grovers and spares are always a good idea with those. They seem hard to find at the moment, although not as hard to find/expensive as a set of flat Grovers like on my main bass. I’ve got a couple of spares of those too, just in case. Wish I had a full set….

How are you gonna go about the tuner holes?
In order to fit period-correct tuners (probably Grovers?!?), you first have to plug the enlarged ones, and then somehow hide the repair. Not sure if the (Grover) bushings will cover the plugged area, so at least a partial refin may be due...

If you are not worried about restoration, you could put Hipshot Ultralites on it (they can only be an improvement) and measure the depth and width of the tuner holes and they will make you custom bushings. They did for me.

I will probably leave the tuners as-is for now, while hoping to find a set of the original ones for sale somewhere.
