John Deacon - Queen demos

Post by byu »

This pic is apparently from the 1971 De Lane Lea Studio demo recording sessions. All 5 songs would eventually be re-recorded for the first Queen album. The demo versions are available as a bonus disc on the 2011 Queen I remastered disc. Since this pic is from those sessions, I think it's safe to assume a 4001 is what we hear on the demo EP. Having listened to the disc, all I can say is it's possible. Also of note, this appears to be Fireglo. In live pics I've seen, he has a Jetglo.

This bass has a horseshoe pickup which dates it between 1963 and 1968. The combination of black knobs and lack of tug bar puts it in the first half of 1963 like this March '63 bass.

First time that I've seen that pic. I was aware of John Deacon playing Rics in the early days before switching to Fenders. It seemed that everyone played them in the early 70's.

The horseshoe pickup surround looks more like that from the mid '60s, like this one I got from ebay years ago.
