4003 pre-2019 bridge mounting screws?

Post by cboehmig »

Hi folks,

I recently picked up a 2016 4003. I love it! However, I think whoever had it before me must have put a hipshot on there, but took it off and put the stock bridge back on before selling. I think they used the hipshot screws to put it back on the body though, because four out of the five mounting screws are flathead.

even though it's completely cosmetic, I'd like to get the correct roundhead screws to go in there. I'm having a real hard time figuring out what the size or part number is for them, does anybody know what size screw they are? I guess I could take one of the flatheads to a hardware store and see if I can find a match, but I am visually impaired and that might be difficult for me… i'd much rather order some from somewhere online knowing that they're the right size. Thanks in advance!

I am pretty certain the tailpiece mounting screws are flathead screws.

The ones on my 4003s are rounded, and I am pretty sure the ones on other 4003 that I have had were
rounded too. The flat-topped screws on the 4003 look weird to me....

They are somewhat domed, not truly flat. When I hear round head screws I think of something like this.

The mounting screws are RIC part number 5201 (also used as the "long" pick guard screws on two-tier guitar pick guards):

These are oval head stainless steel wood screws, 3/4" long (overall), but I don't remember the screw number. I think that Ace Hardware has them ... I will make a run to Ace and see if I can match what they have to a real 5201.

Thanks, Gary. I couldn't recall the name of that head type (old fart brain here  ).

The screw size is #6, and Ace had them:

The RIC part is on the left, the Ace one is on the right.

I bought some while at Ace (I remembered that I might need some for the pick guard on my 365 FG that is almost back to "normal"), so if you don't have an Ace or similar hardware store near you, PM me with your address and I can mail you a set of four or five (your choice).

Just some info, if you don't have an ACE Hardware near you, Look for a True Value Hardware store. They have the best selection of screws / bolts I've ever seen.

While they're still around. Didn't they get bought out or are going bankrupt or something like that recently?

Thank you, that is a very kind offer. I do have an Ace Hardware not too far from here and that looks like just about as close a match as you can get. If for some reason I can't get it from them I'll definitely take you up on your generosity.

Great, helpful forum! :)

I actually was able to find the screws on the Ace Hardware site, and they appear to be the same (Hillman brand) as these that I found on Amazon.

I ordered a set. Leaving this link here in case anyone else is looking for these screws in the future. I'll report back in the event that they are not in fact the correct screws, but I'm pretty sure they will be.

Thanks again folks!

Update - the screws from my Amazon link above arrived and are a perfect match as far as I can tell - virtually indistinguishable from the ones on my 4003s. I know I've said it a few times but thanks again for the specs, this was just what I needed!
