Wall Hooks

Post by rickde »

I'm in the market for some very nice wall hooks to hang my basses on the wall. They are starting to clutter the room a bit. Any suggestions on where I could buy these on-line?

Or...Ivor Mairants in London has some:

Hope that helps.

Thanks John. These look to be of excellent quality.

While we are on the subject, is there any long term risk to the guitar, particularly one with a lamenated headstock by hanging it in this manner for an extended period of time? I realize that they are hung in the factory this way and in music stores for many months at a time. Nonetheless, I have always been a bit leary because of the strain it puts on the headstock.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Peter, I have 6 of my basses hanging from the wall in my finished basement. I use String Swing model CC-01 guitar wall hangers.
One of the 6 is my early 73 4001. I've had it hanging with the others since I finished the room 3 yrs ago.
Before I decided to go ahead and hang my basses from the wall I had the same concerns as you about what (long term) effect will it have on them.
Todate, I'm happy to report that there is nothing to report other than all six are still in perfect condition. I play them almost everyday and i'm always checking on them to make sure they're all ok.
My take on it is, if the instrument is well built, hanging it from a wall hanger will have no impact on it.

Make sure that whatever hangers you buy do not use rubber for the padding, as this can eat the finish depending on what it is.

The hangers I use have a foam coating that does not react with laquer based finishes. A local guitar store discovered that all of their Gibson guitars had the finish melting on them after installing new hangers.

The hangers I use fit pretty tight with the necks on my basses, so the weight isn't on the wings. I haven't bought them in quite a while so I don't know the brand name off hand.

I would also suggest getting beefier wall anchors than tend to come with most hangers. I use metal anchors that squeeze onto the drywall with wings, rather than the more common plastic anchors.

I also have 5 String Swing CC-01's in my living room holding my instruments. Easy to hang, easy to adjust. I love them.

Just mount them to studs - I don't like the idea of anchors. Toggle bolts, maybe.

I always used Off The Wall guitar hangers in my shop. Some of my personal vintage instruments have been hanging on the same ones since 1990 with no damage to the finishes. (The manufacturer talked to John Hall and the folks at Fender and Gibson to come up with the right material that wouldn't burn a finish over time.)

I know they are available from StewMac, at:

I'm sure they must be avaialble elsewhere as well.
