The older catalogs spell FireGlo as FireGlow. When was this changed?

The 1968 catalog at the Rickenbacker web site:

has the spellings without the final "w"; the 1958 catalog has the "w" ending in the names:

RIC doesn't have catalogs in the intervening years posted at its site, but apparently the change in spelling occurred sometime between 1958 and 1968.

Interesting that the '68 catalog says the basses all have 21 frets!

Jeffery, I had to check that one out for myself, but there it is in black and white. We have at least two regular posters on this site who own '68 basses, I wonder if either of them are 21 fret basses... Jeff Rath and dedgoat are the ones, I believe...

I'm sure it's just a typo as the photos in the catalog does not bear that out. Not surprisingly though, Richard Smith say the same thing in his description of 4005 models in his book. Obviously he didn't do too much fact checking!

No, neither Jeff's nor Kendall's 1968 4001s are 21 fret. I believe my November 1970 4001 to be the 'oldest' 21 fret as yet in the Forum. Grant Arthur's (January 1971) and Gene's (February 1971) come next.

We need to get Chris Squire and that guy from Flash that played the 21 fret 4001 on the Midnight Special to weigh in on what the serial numbers are of their basses... Chris, are ya out there?

My 21 fret 4001 dates to November of 71 if that helps.
