Ric Hunting in DC
Howdy folks.
I'm headed up to the DC area this weekend. If you were me [on the foolish quest of looking for a '70s FG 4001 in decent shape], where might you look?
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're in the No. Virginia area, try Classic Axe in Manassas, Virginia. Russ (the owner) is a Rick dealer and he has a bunch of 4003's in the store. Give him a call at 703-330-7966 and he can tell you exactly what he has in stock.

Another vote for Classic Axe, Russ is great to deal with.
In terms of used, I would say to try Action Music or Atomic Music in College Park, Md (I've never been there, they tell me it's nice). Also Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center. Though I would say that the odds of finding a 70's FG anywhere on the shelf around here are pretty slim.

Atomic is a half mile from where I work. I'm in there all the time & know most of the guys that work there. I was in there about two weeks ago - didn't see any ricks though.
It's a cool place but their inventory isn't what it used to be - they used to have a couple ricks and lots of 70's fender basses that would all come and go. It's not like that anymore...

I work in College Park too, and I usually pop in Atomic at least once a month. Sometimes they have pretty good deals, but most of the time I think their stuff is overpriced. When they do have a Rick or two, it's usually a beater and a little too pricey for me.

I've played that bass too, and I even put the LaBella tapewounds on them. Congrats, Mike, at least I know that it's going to a good home!
On a side note, I've just gotten back from a weekend trip to see my folks in NJ, and I come back here and I see a 4001v63 strategically sawed in a bunch of pieces and a '78 4001 go for over $2600 on eBay. Have some people lost their minds?!?
