Hipshot D-tuners on 4003's

Post by prague »

Since a 4003S/5 is now elusive, I could make do with a drop-D tuner by Hipshot. These are a breeze to install on Fenders, but I haven't found much info on Ric useage.

(sorry, forgot my vB code!)

Anyone ever try these? Are the keys similar to the Ric factory keys in appearance?

This could get me into buying a Ric 4003.

Try stringing it B E A D .... you get the low B and you don't have to mod the bass ...

OR Tune D G C F and use fatter strings ...

Ric's have a smaller hole in the headstock than a fender does ...

Thanks, Jeff. I wouldn't tune down to B E A D or down a whole step. I need that upper range to stay as is. I can get by fairly well tuning down to D A D G, though.

The Hipshot M-4 is supposed to work on Ric's (and other brands). I just wanted to find out if anyone thought the M-4 tuning key looked like a Ric tuning key. I also don't know if any mod is needed to install this.

I'll fire of an e-mail to Hipshot, also.
