The Rain Parade

Post by Marc »

Does anybody know what kind of set up of amps and guitars The Rain Parade used. 'You are my Friend' has got to be one of the ultimate jangling songs of the eighties, right up there with R.E.M. and The Smithereens.

I have never had the opportunity to see Rain Parade live, But any photographs I have seen show Dave Roback with a Fender Jaguar, and Matthew Piucci with a Gretsch hollow-body. I seem to remember the mention of Rickebacker in an article but I can't be sure. I did have the chance to see Dave Roback's next band (I wasn't impressed, so I didn't retain the name)around 1989, and he was playing a Fender Stratocaster, and the same Jaguar. Given the nature of Jaguars, and most Gretsch guitars they could be mistaken for six string Rickenbackers, but I seem to here twelve-strings in some of the songs on the "Emergency Third Rail Power Trip" album. DAve Roback left after that album, and does not appear on "Explosions in the Glass Palace" - the album to which you refer.
Hope that helps some,
Rob
