71-73 4001 Machine heads

Post by leftybass »

I want to put the correct machine heads back on my '72 4001. It has at present tuners that are held in place by a large nut on the front of the headstock. Originally you can tell where the factory machine heads were fastened by screws from the rear. I'm guessing grovers or klusons, so am I on the right track for authenticity?? I think they were doing both at the time but thought I would ask 'cause I want it to be right. Many thanks!!!

My 72 4001 has it's original tuners still on it, they're Grovers with the closed back. You might have difficulty finding a original replacement set. Mark the MD might beable to help you locate a set. Good luck.
