They look like closed back grovers. The kind my 83 4003 had on them before I changed them to the more current open back set. Pretty finish on that one. I wish I had the bread to buy it myself. I love dark fireglo.

I like it and actually have some money to buy it. The problem I have is the guys feedback rating and knowing if he replaced the machines. All I gotta do is put a toaster and horseshoe and I'm good to go .

I don't think those are Grovers or at least Grover Slimlines like they used back then, they look too thick. They look like non-original tuners to me, unless it's the photo, but I'd get a close up of the headstock if I were contemplating buying that bass.
I sold a 75 like that a few years ago that was nicer, only differences were it had two high gains and regular binding, had Grover Slimlines on it and was FG.

This is under an hours drive from me. I may take a look at it this weekend. I,ve e-mailed for an address. Same cool dark FG as my 73 (MD) fretless, which has wavy grovers fitted, and yes it already has a toaster...I,ll report back if I get to see it...

Strangely enough, there are no good headstock pictures. Feedback and registration 4-5 months ago is kinda scary. But, a FG '73 in that condition is quite nice.

Would be great if Andrew can see it in person.

Andrew, let me know if you've even made contact. I tried to e-mail but, it didn't go through. I'd really like a fireglo 4001 with checkerboard binding, grovers,horseshoe and toaster pickups. Am I aksing for too much?

At least with this bass I'd be most of the way home.

This is one of the few transition 4001 basses made in mid 1973. Notice the the short width MOP inlays and the non split tailpiece. But it has checkered binding, a toaster p/u and Grover's. Isn't that a beautiful Fireglo finish!

That is just like my '73 4001, also MG xxxx serial number. From what I can tell, the tuners look like Schallers. Very nice shape.

I put in an e-mail to the guy to see if it's at all negotiable.I've never seen one from that year at such a price,pretty as it seems to be.
