The Cavern Club.
The Cavern Club.
I would be interesting if we could put here some pictures of The Cavern Club. I'll search for some good ones and I´ll be posting them in a couple of days.
Here is a rare picture of The Cavern´s staircase, taken in 1957 - 1959 and included in a leaflet published in Liverpool when The Cavern was a jazz club. I have seen many pictures of The Cavern, but I believe this is the first one I found that actually shows the staircase. The entrance to the club was slightly rebuilt in 1964, but I reckon that the stairs were never touched.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

More about the 'Cavern' stairs. I have been reading several Liverpool - related books lately, and it seems that there is a conflict: Bob Wooler says that the stairs were made of stone, but other sources say that were made of wood. And another interesting info: this kind of cellar used to have a back - entrance or exit. For what I have read, if the 'Cavern' had one, it was closed with bricks long before the sixties. But there is more: the 'Cavern' had a side door, leading to a narrow lane and then to Mathew St. This door was somewhere between the 'Cavern' offices (ground level) and the basement.
