I've got a beautiful 4001v63 that I bought off of ebay just over a year ago. It's a 1999 model so it would be under warranty if I had bought it from an authorized dealer. Unfortunately, I didn't so Rickenbacker won't do any warranty repairs.
Anyway, after I bought it, I replaced the flats on it with some Rotosound roundwounds. I played the bass a few times in my basement but never took it to a gig. About six months ago, I stuck it in a closet where it stayed unplayed until a week ago.
The problem: I just got a new amp so I decided to get the Rick out and try it out and noticed that it now has a very audible hum - like something is not grounded properly. I tried different cables and all my other basses and the problem is definitely with the Rick.
I looked at Rickenbacker's service page and it says only they are authorized to do repairs on their instruments. I want to get this fixed but I want to get it fixed by someone who is familiar with Rickenbacker instruments. There are no Rickenbacker dealers where I live in Colorado Springs but there are several in Denver. Should I take it to one of these places? Anybody know why this bass might be producing this hum - a broken solder perhaps?

I had a problem just like that and the guy that works on my basses said there was a ground wire loose right under or around the horseshoe. He fixed it and I've never had another problem with it... This was back in '97 and no problems since...
