Stringing my new RIC

Post by dkguig »

Hey gang, I just bought a '92 RIC 330.. My question.. the shop owner said before he sends it out, he'll re-string it with any strings (type and gauge) that I want.. Does anyone have a recommendation for strings that they're really happy with? Thanks.

Douglas: This is so subjective and depends on your style and what sound your are trying to achieve. My two cents would be to use the Rickenbacker strings to start with and then experiment from there should you not be satisfied.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

If you want the fattest /biggest tone ...the big strings are the best.

If you are just playing chords, then whatever your fingers can handle.

If you solo on it and you bend alot ,then what ever gauge is your usual set . A set of .010 to .046 is the standard.

.011 to .48-.050 a close runner up

.012 to .052 with a wound G/3rd string is a great non soloing-"WHO" sound.

I've seen guys who want .008 to .038 on their guitars and do well with it (Carlos Santana used this for years) but it feels pretty wimpy to me and I hate the rubber band feel of it.
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!

Thanks guys for the help.. My RIC arrived today! Since I was young I always wanted one and now I own a beautiful '96 330/6 FireGlo.. Peter, I took your advice and had it re-strung with RIC .010/.046s.. seems to play great for me, I'll stick with them. I'm so glad to finally be a member of the RIC owner's club... Take care.

Doug
