Pot holes in a pickguard

I made a new pickguard for my '62 625, and I've got a question about the holes for the pot shafts.

In the original guard, the holes are located somewhat haphazardly: the bridge pots aren't parallel with the neck pots, and the volume pots aren't parallel with the tone pots. When you consider the 5th knob and the selector switch, things are even worse. And no, this isn't my OCD kicking in - you can easily see this.

Given the somewhat interpretive machine in other areas, I can't tell if the holes are intentionally located in this pattern, or if it's more of the pre-NC "close enough" work that I see elsewhere.

Here's the question: Are the holes in the pickguard in the same place in all 625's, or do they vary between instruments?

As an addendum, when the selector switch is up (towards the strings), does that select the neck (a la Gibson) or bridge pup?

Adam: Most 1960s Model 625s (like this one from Bjorn Eriksson's site) that I have seen have the following knob configuration. Also, as you are playing the guitar, the selector switch in the up position (as it is in the following photo) selects the neck pickup.
