"Remember" By Michael McCartney

Post by blur »

Just wondering if anyone else here has the coffee table photo book, "Remember" by Michael McCartney?

I pulled out my copy the other night and was ogling all the Rickenbacker pictures for the zillionth time, when it became apparant to me that perhaps some people don't own a copy, and maybe scans are in order?

I don't want to start such a job if everyone's got a copy, of course, and I'm just unaware of that. Let me know :-)

Rob: I have yet to get a copy of this book.

I, for one, would be interested in scans of photos that show the Beatles performing in the fall of 1962 from September 4, 1962 until mid December 1962. Feel free to send them through [email protected] if you wish.

So, essentially the start of the Ringo era with the group? The biggest problem with this book is that Mike McCartney doesn't date the photos in his descriptions. I can have a good guess at some, but not others. There's a page I'm looking at right now which purports to be among Ringo's first shows, so this would fit with your request. I'll do a scan or two, make them lo-res and see if you like 'em/have seen 'em before. If not, I can send the full res through.

I've never seen this book. Is it worth splashing out for?

This is one of my favorite Beatle books. Mike McCartney took some amazing photos. It starts with the first color picture of John, Paul, and George and goes to 1963. I would compare his photos to Astrid Kirchher's and the cool thing is he has the early photographic record of The Beatles from Liverpool and Astrid's are from Hamburg. How lucky could we get to have two great photographers in the two most important cities where the Beatles developed as a group? If you can find a copy it's definitely worth buying.

And the text is very personable and real. You get a great feeling for what it was like in Paul's family in the 50s and early 60s.

I have the book, and it is fantastic. Mike McCartney was a great photographer, and put much thought into his images, like Astrid. It is a large coffee table book, so the quality of the prints is incredible. He really did capture the early magic of the Beatles.

Finished the book last night. I would agree with Larry W's statement earlier. I almost felt like I was there.....
