Searcher's Material

Can anyone tell me what was the formula the Searchers used to record other people's material?
Did songwriters, ie Sonny Bono or Jackie de Shannon send them songs or the record company find songs for them or did the Searchers themselves look for songs to record?

Ed: Great question. Chris Curtis took a leadership role in the beginning with regard to selecting the covers that would be recorded. I am sure that he did this in collaboration with the other group members, however, it would seem that he had considerable influence over the song that the Searchers eventually recorded. To his credit, his picks were very successful for them in the beginning. I am not sure of the forumla used in MIKE PENDERS' SEARCHERS or in The Searchers today.
