Rickenbacker 620 or 360

Post by tokiwado »

Hi, I am new in the forum and on a look out for a ric. After doing some research, I have sort of narrow down to this 2 models.

Are the neck profiles the same on both models? Being a hollowbody, is the 360 lighter than the 620? I always wanted a semi but the smaller body of the 620 really appeals to me.

I prefer a jazzier tone and I read that the 620 neck pickup has more punch as it is place on the 22nd fret, nearer than the 360. Almost all my other guitars are dual hums so a ric will be a very nice addition. I will really appreciate any inputs before I take the plunge.

The 620 does have a little more attack that the 360, but I attribute that to the fact that it's a solidbody, not because of the neck pickup placement.

They weigh about the same, typically about 8 lbs. The 360 is hollow but it's a good bit larger.

The neck width at the nut and 12th fret are the same, at least in recent years. Thickness front to back? Hard to say since there has been variation over the years, the few 620s I have tried in the last few years seem a little thicker than the 360s. But I could be wrong, I haven't measured or done a direct A/B comparison.

The best "jazz tone" I've heard out of a rick was, surprisingly, a 325c58. It's both semi-hollow and small, to boot. OTOH you could get a 620 AND a 360 for the price of a new 325.

Since there's not much difference in sound, I guess I will most likely go for a 620. But they are really hard to find over this part of the world (Singapore). Most probably I will try to get a used one on ebay where I have some feedbacks. There's one going for US820 (the seller lowered the BIN from US850 after some negotiation with him) but I think its still a tag high for a used 620. So far, the best price I can find on a new 620 is US859.99 from Fredsmusic. Anyone has some recommendation on some dealers whose willing to ship internationally? Thanks.

I really like this Fireglo 620 but the auction still has a long way to go. The guitar is almost 15 years old but looks to be in good condition. Or should I pay more and get a newer model for the Blue 620 which I am talking about in my previous post? Is there any difference?

There are no North American dealers that are authorized to ship new instruments internationally. The only legitimate source (which can provide warranty and service) is here:

Calvin, I think the hollow-bodies are much better for jazz. If you like small and light, I think the 350s are the best all around guitars (Hollow but no cut-away with full size neck and very light). Either way, once you own one, you will want five more.

I live in Malaysia and purchased a new Ric 360 through Ed Roman Guitars. They shipped to Malaysia from their Las Vegas store. His website advertises that they ship worldwide. Will my warranty be null and void?
