COOL Fathers day gift!!

Post by beatlefan »

My two step-sons went together and bought me something I've wanted for a good while now.....

The Beatles Complete Scores

I guess I won't be grounding them for awhile...

If you're not sure how to play "everything" yet, you'll use that book ALOT. Awesome gift...I've had mine about eight years and still consult it regularly. It's also great to take to the John.
Sweet step-sons you got there.

Thanks Spencer....

The thing is, I never told them about it....
My oldest step-son just graduated from college and had a minor in music....so we play Beatle stuff together when he is home....HE is actually the one that told ME about it, originally.....I just said "I'd like to have that someday"....that was about 3-4 years ago.....
They are good kids!! ;^)

The kids are alright! It's great how music connects everybody. Of course we might be a little partial to Beatles music.

I've got The Beatles Complete Scores, too. It is a fantastic book, and a great reference tool. I play strictly by ear and don't read music, so the tabs in this are great help for when I can't get the intricate ones by ear. The amazing thing about this book is that it includes all the bass notes and tabs, too, which is almost unheard of.

For Beatles fans, this is a must-have.

That's a great gift! I've been wanting that too.
Andrew,
The bass tabs is what I want it for. Is it real close? I also play only by ear.

Thanks,
Kevin

How accurate are the songs? I cannot tell you how many Beatles music books I have seen with the completely wrong chords. Just curious.

Kevin and Scott,
I got the book strictly for the bass tabs, as it is virtually impossible to get bass tabs for the Beatles, especially their entire catalog at one shot.

The book is really quite accurate. There are some discrepancies and errors, but they are easily discovered when playing. For those hard to play numbers on bass, it is really fantastic to have, and you'll be amazed at how dead-on the tabs are.

My only complaints:

1. the writing is quite small, and it is really a bugger for me to read without being close. An easy fix, though, as I just throw the book onto a music stand. Coupled with the CD remote, you can learn those hard tunes in no time! They should have printed it in two volumes, large style, to fit the 200+ songs in.

2. Most every song is started on the right page, about two-thirds from the bottom. Because of this, you get a few bars into the song, sometimes 10-20 seconds, and you have to flip the darned page. This is my worst complaint about the book.

For the price, this is one of the best investments a Beatle fan (player) can make.

A friend of mine can't read music or play by ear, and he has used this book extensively to pick out the guitar parts. He has gone through much of the book, and plays the leads & rhythms, and they are dead on. There are a couple songs that may lack the tabs on a 3rd guitar, but they are few and far between.

I used it to pick the intricate details to Michelle, Don't Let Me Down, With A Little Help From My Friends, and others featuring tough lines, and they are exact. It is quite amazing to hear my 4003 chime in unison with McCartney, and on a great number of songs, I couldn't have done that by ear.

Good luck. I know you'll love the book.

Chiming in..

It's a great book. The font size is too small for my aging eyes, so I just photocopy a section I'm interested in and enlarge it.
