What was it?

Post by jaybyrd »

I saw a 6 string Rick solid-body today with a serial number of OE2642(May 1975). It was a model that I am unfamiliar with. It was shaped like the 600 series, but the headstock also had the "cresting wave." It was some kind of brownish/bronze color. The two pickups were black plastic and the style reminded me of the ones on my 99 Fender Strat.

I am far from a Rick expert, but I was not impressed by some of the workmanship, such as the pickguard was buckled around the screws and the tuners looked like cheap replacements. I don't know if someone had "customized it" or if it was made that way, but it did have good action and pretty decent sound. The owner is asking $795. Any comments would be appreciated.
Nothing compares to the sound of a Rick 12 with a JangleBox and a touch of chorus.

Jaybyrd, it was probably a 480. $795. is probably too high a price.

Hey, John,
Thanks for the tip. Where do the 480's fit in Rick history? I searched in vain to find some info on this guitar, but I failed. Is it a desirable model, given it is so old, and what would be a good offer to make? I really was not impressed with the looks of it.

Jaybyrd, I had a hunch that the guitar was at The
Music Store, ha ha. I checked it out today. It definitely a 480. The color was a Autumn-Glo (and a neat version of it too). Excellent condition. $695. would be a better price for it.

Also, this 480 had a black "lucite" trussrod cover. Never seen one in person.

John,
You crafty rascal. How did you know where? Is that the only place to find good used stuff around here?
