Amp for 4001 with flats?
I am looking for an amp to go with my two RICs that are set up with TI Flats.
1971 with original toaster and transitional hi-gain
1976 with new scatterwound toaster and V63 horseshoe
I found an SWR Silverado Special with tube preamp, 2x12 and a horn for about $700 used.
Any opinions or suggestions on a good match?

In the Ampeg line what would you recommend? Is a $700 range a good place to be?
I had a Traynor head with a Kustom 3x15 cabinet in the late 70s. I was quite a bit younger and didn't have a refined ear yet, so I can't recall the details of how it sounded. I just remember that it was VERY loud and had lots of bottom end. Unfortunately it had to go when I got married and needed a couch.
Any more suggestions out there?

Bob,
Traynor just reintroduced a tube amp, take a look at the YBA-200, 200w all tube, and retails for under $600 new. SVT, and or B4 are also great amps.
If you can audition one I'd say give it a try:

I'll throw in a plug for the Ashdown ABM series. It has a lot of warmth and clarity. I compared my ABM C210T-300 combo to an Ampeg SVT-3 and liked the Ashdown better. Ampeg is still agood match, though; I just like my rig more. It has more of a vintage British sound. Don't get the MAG series; it sounds dead compared to the ABM line.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

I've been using a Roland DB700 bass combo for about 4 years now, average 12 shows a month, sounds great, plenty loud, have never had a problem. Programmable pre-amp presets are very handy, I use a Hofner first set, a Ric for the second, and any number of basses for the third, and all I do is press a button for each set/bass.

I was cosidering going for the Ashdown John Entwhistle model preamp and a stereo power amp also from Ashdown once but reviews posted on Harmony Central questioned their reliability so I went with Ampeg and haven't looked back. I got my PB250(250 watts) new for $429.00 shipped and my B4R used(340 watts per side at 4 ohms) for $540.00 shipped...both from E-Bay and both solid state. Excellent sound with tons of bottom end and versatility.
