Sweet, yes. The BIN price is a bit too high though.

Wouldn't a 72 have a thumbrest?

Jack plate says 72. The guard was probably replaced.

'LL' on jackplate dates that 4001 to December 72. Maybe the thumbrest - or should I say 'fingergrip' - had been discontinued by then.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

My left-handed 72 4001(LJ) has a fingergrip, and the other 72 lefty I have that I was restoring(LK) also had a fingergrip from the factory. A quick look under the 'guard on this ebay bass would tell the story one way or another...

My Burgundy 1972 4001 is LJxxxx, like your LH, John.

It isn't BG too, is it?

I wonder if anyone would be interested in trading the currently offered 4001 and about 5G's for my '64 4001? What do you forum guys and gals think? Is 8 years worth $5,000.00?
Best regards, kksalm

I think the guard could be original. I have a Dec 72 LL and that has no fingergrip holes in the guard and none in the body. They were probably phasing them out by then, although as ever YMMV...

Ken, tough call. I think E-bay is your best option. A worldwide audience and big potential $$$$. Then you can afford anything from the 70,s...

Yes I think Ebay is a viable option, however, I have a world wide audience right here. I'm giving this forum the freedom of mulling over such a question for awhile. I'm leaving this weekend for a 3 week work stint and I'll be out of my "Let's make a deal" mode. Hopefully I'll have access to the WWW to check out my favorite forum.
Best Regards, Kksalm
