Hello all. This is my first post here. I wanted to let you all know what a great wealth of info I've gather here. I own a '04 4003 JG that was made in Jan. This past Saturday I played my first gig with it and it was awesome. I have made a couple of completely reversible modifications that I've learned about from this site. I have installed a pick-up cover from Pickgaurdian and installed a clear thumbrest using the existing holes on the pickguard. Wish I had some pictures to post...maybe in the future. Looking forward to being a member here.

Yeah, I'm very pleased with the new Rick. I too enjoy older innstruments, but when it comes to me owning one, I do prefer to be the first owner. BTW I did order it online from Musician's Friend. It arrived with no problems whatsoever. I do have a set of Elixer Nanoweb strings that I just put on it. I am more and more amazed by this bass everyday.

Welcome Jason. Where did you get the clear thumbrest and how did you use the exsisting pickguard holes. It looks like you would need to use one hole from the pickguard and the other for the bridge pickup? If that the case than the thumbrest would be angled to much. If anyone elses know please chime in.
Buy it before someone else does.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am currently using a Peavey TKO 115. It provides plenty of thump for the small venues (can you call a bar a venue?) we play. The thumbrest was something my brother-in-law made. It is a bit long in that it runs the entire side of the pickguard, parallel to the strings. However, I have come to really enjoy it in that my hand can move relatively freely from near the neck all the way down to the bridge pick-up
