Who sings Hallelujah...in Star Club tapes?

Post by mclennon »

Hello everyone,

I was listening to the Star Club recording the other day and I found out I couldn’t identify who was the singer in Cochran’s “Hallelujah, I love her so” cover. Definitely he is not John, George or Ringo (who was in the band already) and he doesn’t sound as Paul to me either, although he introduced the song, but his voice is clearly recognisable in other tracks of the same recording. According to Walter Everet that song was in McCartney’s repertoire at that time but it sounds different to me when I hear the Star Club tape. The song is in the same pitch as the original record (G mayor) so it isn’t a weird voice case due to altered speed recording. Do you think he could be a guest ? but who?

I think there’s only another recording of the song: Anthology Vol .1. This time it is clearly Paul’s voice. If you compare both recordings it results two different singers…or am I getting nuts?

It's either Horst Fascher or his brother, Fred. Some say it's another waiter named Horst - Horst Obber I believe. Not one of the Beatles, although they do rock out behind him quite awesomely....

Thanks Michael,
I had no idea about Horst Fascher. Your information allowed me to find this interesting site:
