A case of the blues (?)

Post by mclennon »

Hello

I’ve found this Lennon's song in internet. Its title is “A case of the blues” and it comes in The Complete Lost Lennon Tapes Vol. 6. Does anybody know when or where this demo was recorded or something related to it? Although its sound quality isn’t good it’s strange Yoko didn’t included that song in the new ACOUSTIC release so I think this demo probably comes from the last Beatle years and not from solo years.

I might be wrong, but I think it was recorded during the 'Get Back' or as they were later called, the 'Let it Be' sessions in January, 1969.

Thanks Randy,
I think that is the right answer too. They recorded some many songs that month (more than 50 own compositions and an uncountable number of covers) that isn't weird to hear new undeveloped songs or mere improvisations captured in many bootlegs here and there.

If memory serves me, that song popped up on an old vinyl bootleg (remember those?) many years ago. I'm not the Lennon scholar that I was once, so I haven't kept up on all of the new stuff that seems to turn up every day. Someone may still drop in to say I'm mistaken and that's okay. I doubt John would be as particular about his own music and guitars as many of the folks that post here, but that's okay too.

From what I know there's three versions of this one...

Since I don't have RealPlayer I'm going to assume this is the one from 1968 which is from something called the Esher Demos, which is an early recording session for the White Album.
The second and third ones is from the Get Back sessions at Twickenham in 1969. They were recorded at different dates if it means anything to you...

If you're especially interested in this song I could possibly take the time and rip it and send it to you.

I think you're right about the various versions. The 'Esher Demos' were practice sessions where the Beatles ran through proposed songs for the White Album on acoustic guitars. These sessions were held at George's bungalow 'Kinfauns' in Esher. I have a CD-R from the sessions. Sometimes it helps to have someone jog my memory. Thanks!

I would certainly not consider myself a Beatles expert.

But I do know a bunch of "useless" information about them Image

Patrick,

I know what you mean. I've often wondered how much of my memory is being used to retain "useless" information as you call it. Just think how smart we'd all be if we could somehow forget all the "useless" details that we're saving. As far as being an "expert", I know enough to know that there's lots of stuff I don't know.

Just when I start to worry about my obsession with details, I see a thread where people discuss for weeks whether or not John's first 325 did or didn't have a light coating of clear lacquer on its fingerboard. I can't tell you what a relief it is to see that I'm not so bad off after all.

Cheers!

Randy
