I Don't Want to Spoil the Party

Post by lawton »

Hey lads!

My gang and I are working this one up, and I'd like a little help with the vocal parts here. My feeling from listening is that George is doing the lower harmony throughout and that Paul is doubling John on the melody part during the chorus/refrain. John, of course, does the melody throughout.

Is this right? I originally thought that John did the melody on the verses with Paul doing melody on the chorus (John dropping down to do lower harmony). But then I heard a stereo version of the recording, and John seems still to be there with the chorus melody.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer!

Hi,

I'm listening to the stereo version and it sounds like it's just John doubled on the verses. On the choruses, it's Paul doing the high part with John doing the low part.

Hey. That's what I used to think too... But I think I hear John on the chorus melody as well.

George Martin at work again?

To me, it sure sounds like John doing the higher part and paul doing the lower part on the verses, then switching parts on the choruses.

I'm hearing an unmistakable McCartney sinus-voice sorta thingy in the verses--something John wouldn't have done. For a good example, listen closely to the phrase, "my disappointment."
