Well, I went and ordered a new Ric

Today I went and put $200 down on a 4001C64, in fireglo. I've been wanting either a V63 or C64, and prefer to go the new route, so the C64 it is. I've always loved the look of the S models without binding and dot inlays. Add to these features the toaster and horseshoe pickups and you have the ultimate package, in my opinion. Besides, McCartney has always been my favorite bass player, so the C64 will be the perfect fit. It will be a nice compliment to my 4003.

Now I have a few months to wait, but it will be a good chance to gather up some more funds!

Thanks Chris. Yeah, the fireglo will be great---my 4003 is in jetglo, so the C64 will be a completely different animal in looks, playability, feel, and sound.

I forgot to mention another thing I love about the V63 & C64's: the walnut wings on the headstock. And when fireglo is sprayed over them, wow, what a thing of beauty!

Congratulations Andrew, I ended up with a v63, and she's wonderful, might also have to consider a new Fireglo c64.

Look forward to seeing some pictures when she arrives.

I am also thinking the same thing only because I heard the v63 has been discontinued. Is this true?

Sure is.

Hence their often outrageous resale price.

Thanks, guys. I don't think you can go wrong with a C64. If and when they quit the run, I think the production numbers will be less than the V63, making them hard to find used. You certainly don't see as many C64's on ebay as you do the the V63's.

It is going to be fun waiting for this one!

As Macca is your favorite bassist, why not get the C64S?

Jon,
I ordered the bass from a local dealer who sells Rics. He went slightly under the lowest internet price I could find, tax included. He knocked off quite a bit to bring it to price with the NYS taxes involved. It is nice because the dealer is local, plus I can stop in to make periodic payments to chip away at the balance due.

Jeffrey,
I thought about the C64S and if it had a real aged look to the body, I may have gone with it. The fireglo has always been a the ultimate Ric color, and even though McCartney didn't have it this way for long, it represents it the way it was when originally presented to him.
