TODAY'S THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
Long time passing. Hello Roy. I am still here and welcome our next discussion. I was just wondering this morning, what composer that the Seachers covered most often in their recording. Do you have this fact at your fingertips? I don't think we have spent a lot of time on this question before.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Until I read it here, I had no idea that The Searchers had recorded "Western Union". I was really surprised to find this out. I only knew The Five American's version.
I had never heard the Searcher's version before.
Now that I have mp3's of both versions, i'm amazed at just how close they are.
Are there other Searcher's tunes that have been covered by other bands and become hits or is "Western Union" the only one?

Western Union Jon was not a hit for The Searchers released as last but one single on PYE. You may not be aware that they were in fact the first act to record and release Solitaire as a Single in 74, later a hit for Andy Williams and The Carpenters.
The Five Americans actually did the original version of Western Union.

Ah Broken Hearts - Actually that is Mike Pender and is now found on numerous compilations, some credited to Mike Pender's Searchers and some to the Searchers. I love the track Chris, suits Pender's voice, don't know if you have had a look at Clough Links on Peter's site but if not check out my article Pender the Album That Never Was. Mike himself had a copy last time I saw him

Broken Hearts is a great song. Over the years, there has been nothing wrong with Mike Pender's voice.

Hi Gang, best news, The Searchers started their Aussie tour on an exceptionally high note. Not a big crowd at the club but a very lively bunch. They sang along and danced the night away. Frank was in his element. The more they participated the more animated he became, he sure does enjoy his "work" I took my youngest son along and he really did enjoy it even singing along to some of the hits. He is 25. My hubby, Peter, said it was the best of the shows we have see since they have been coming out here. Just hope the tour continues on that note. I will do a full write up shortly and if the photos turn out okay (forgot the digital and had to borrow my dads'new camera) I will email them to all who want copies.
Pam, it you are able to email or snail-mail them to me I would be pleased to put them online for all to see.
