See "Bye Bye Guitar Center" in the Rickenbacker General section.

I have not seen a Rickenbacker in GC in a few years, locally here in the greater Boston/ New England area. This just confirms it.

Actually, the last new Rickenbacker I saw at a GC was in 1998, when I bought the v63 I used to have. But It was at reduced price, the fretboard coating was cracked at the octave and I could NEVER get it set up right, the neck was pretty poor, couldn't be adjusted. Only Rickenbacker I have ever been disapointed in; not sure how much GC contributed to its quality. Ended up trading it for an Alembic Presuader, but that one is gone too......

I bought a new midnight blue from the Natick store about 2 and a half years ago, and bought two V63's in 2001. They had plenty until about 3-4 years ago. They deserved it.

Bought the following at the Boston GC on Comm Ave:
1995 USA Precision (since sold)
Apmeg B100-R amp (still have)
1997 Fireglo 4003 (new, It is registered here V0 5106)
1998 4001V63 (but this one was a lemon and I sold it)

And have not seen a Rick there since. Used to be you could expect to just walk in and pick your color bass there (In fact when I decided to drive down and buy the Fireglo I did not even obhter to call, I just went. 11/4/97) And there were 3ea 4003s there- Jetglo, Mapleglo and Fireglo.
If I were in the market now for one I'd use Mike PArks anyway, from what I've heard.

I haven't seen a new Rick bass at Sam Ash for several years either. The last chain store that I had seen a new Rick bass in was Mars, and Mars is gone now.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Dave, I bought both my Seagreen 4003 and my 78 Azureglo 4001 in the Com. Ave. GC the same day in 2001, was a good day. They had the Azureglo listed for $450.00 more than the Seagreen and called it a Midnight Blue. They had at least ten older Rics hanging, all the way back to 1973 and a new Midnight blue 4003.

That's pretty impressive, 2 Ricks in one day!

I must have bad timing because I haven't seen too many since the late 90's.

The seagreen makes me drool!

The Guitar Center here in Dallas has a late '70s white 4001 for sale, bargain priced at only $2000... The tag says it was a rare color...

That probably won't be a bad price in 2010.
