Ceremony Rekindles 45 Year Old Rockin' Memories |
|
Forty-five years ago, The Iron Door opened its doors on April 9, 1960 to enthusiastic patrons who would become the stars of the British Invasion. The Club was founded by Mr. Geoff Hogarth and Mr. Harry Ormesher who, through their generosity and belief in the spirit of young talented Liverpudlians, set the stage for the careers of "would-be performers" the likes of which included Cilia Black, The Searchers, The Beatles and Billy J. Kramer among scores of others.
So it was on April 9, 2005 that a proud Geoffrey Hogarth attended the unveiling of the Blue Plaque at 3:30 pm at the spot that once marked The Iron Door Club. The plaque was unveiled by two well-know music personalities, Tommy Hughes of the popular Kansas City Five and Teddy Taylor of Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes.
The celebration continued at Sam's Bar, Tithe Barn Street, Liverpool 2 where fans of the Iron Door Club gathered to discuss the old days and listened to Nicky Crouch and the Mojos, Kingsize Taylor and Lee Curtis and the Taylor Maids.
