Kingsize and the Dominoes - Favourites At The Iron Door

Many great acts would appear on stage at the Iron Door Club in the early 1960s, however, whether you are talking to owners, managers or patrons it is generally agreed that Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes were the most popular.

Ted "Kingsize" Taylor had a stage presence that was second to none and at the end of this brief article you will get your chance to hear their version of Larry Williams' "Bad Boy" which as it turns out was recorded in the Polydor studio in Hamburg in the early sixties.

Kingsize is known for having a "big heart" and as proof of this he has kindly commented on Bad Boy and has give the Iron Door Club site and forum permission to post it so that fans and music historians alike can appreciate the old days. Kingsize comments

"The track "Bad Boy" was a B side of a recording by Larry Williams. I immediately loved the phrasing, the beat, and the clean breaks in the number. It had everything that the Dominoes needed to do it justice. We recorded Bad boy in July, 1963, in the Polydor Studios in Hamburg.

This was only one of the tracks on the LP which became a cult recording. Although it was Kingsize Taylor & The Dominoes, due to the fact that we already had two other recording contracts at this time, the album was released under the name "The Shakers". Every track was either a Juke Box No.1, or in the German regional or National Charts, with two tracks that made No.1.

After its success, it was re-released under our own name. It is still amongst the top sought after recordings in the World, along with Alex Harvey and his Soul Band. The Soul Band were, you guessed it, Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes!

Remember, it's 1963 and you are on the dance floor at the Iron Door. Kingsize has just taken the stage and offers his version of Bad Boy. Please keep you eyes on this page as it is a safe bet that more stories of Kingsize and the Dominoes will emerge over the course of time.
