Hogarth - "The makings to become a real top performer."

Perhaps Beryl Marsden said it best when describing her personality as a young adult to the Liverpool Daily Post in February 2004 -

"I probably wasn't an easy person to manage. I was a bit of a rebel."

Geoff Hogarth has vivid memories of Beryl during her time at the Iron Door Club in the ealy 1960s.

"Beryl was a young bubbly girl of probably fifteen when she first started coming to the Club. At first she would get on the stage during the many jam sessions after the Club was closed for the night. That is when the real entertainment started. At first she would get on to the stage and start singing and forget the words. If Freddie Starr was around, he would try and do some antic to bring her off. Perhaps some of his impressions are better left unmentioned. Breyl seemed to spend a lot of time at the Club and during this period progressed to become a reasonable performer. She had the makings to become a real top entertainer."

That Beryl was a flambouyant performer with lots of energy and enthusiasm is easily imagined from looking at the photo at the top of this article. This still seems to be the case today. Please check out her latest CD - One Dream.
