Comments: Thanks to your site I now know that my Ricky was born in January 1967. I bought my guitar second hand in 1978 and since then , has been my most comfortable and friendly instrument to play. The best for chord chopping and arppegiating. I feel sure that in this registry of loving Ricky players that I'm in good company. No scanner ,yet , but I'll submit a photo as soon as possible. Thanks Neil |

Comments: Just wanted to say what a FANTASTIC website you have!! I'm a big RIC fan, also love The Beatles. I have been a sound tech for many years, & allways enjoyed when the guitarist I worked for (Dalton Poff) would put down his Gibson Les Paul (nothing against G L P, a fine guitar!) & bring out his 325/12 jetglo Lennon Ltd. Edition, what a great sound! I am also a big fan of the band America, I see the band live every chance I get, Love it when Gerry Beckley brings out his RIC's!!! Again, great site for a great guitar, keep up the good work! |

Comments: Great site, Love my Rics, wish I never sold my 65' 360 ( divorce does funny things to your mind ), my 36012v64 had to sell to pay the rent to keep my wife happy ( would do it again if I had to, this one is one wife worth it ), Others were sold to upgrade. I love my 370 it looks like a Capri. Hoping to add a 660/12 FG to my collection soon. |

Comments: After a layoff of about eight years, I decided to get back to playing guitar about a month ago. I picked up a Jackson, and decided I also wanted to get a bass (for recording purposes). Lucky me, I found a '79 Rickenbacker 4001 at a great store here in Toronto. The Jackson is great, but I can't seem to put down the Ricky. What sound! What power! Can anyone out there tell me what Geddy Lee used in addition to his Rickenbacker to get his great sound way back when? I doubt I'll go chasing down that equipment, but I'm curious about what he used. Also... can anyone recommend the best amp available today for use with a Ricky? |

Comments: After looking through your entire web sight, I can only assume this sight is relatively new. I say that, because there is not one(at least that I can see) referrence to Mr. Mike Rutherford of Genesis, and Mike and the Mechanics fame he used a rare(?) doubleneck 4x12 string. He used Rickenbacker guitars and basses exclusively up until around 1980 or so... Cheers. |

Comments: Greetings: I'm here to tell you about the latest RIC I just bought. It's just the 4001 bass in jetglo. It's an older model, made in the 70's or 80's. I really don't know. I bought it used. Not quite second hand. More like third or forth hand. I'm probably the fifth or sixth hand. Well in any case, I bought this bass for one reason. One of my three musical idols owns one. Geddy Lee of Rush. The other two are, you guessed it, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart also of Rush. This also explains why I have the 4080/12 double neck. Geddy has used the 4001 and 4080/12 with Rush in the studio and on stage all throughout the 70's and early 80's. I was privilaged to see many of those shows. I was watching my Rush concert video ("Exit...Stage Left"), and I saw just Geddy rockin' away on that bass. For the song "Xanadu", he pulls out the 4080/12. I'm thinking, "This man is a GOD!!". Any man who can play bass like that has to be gifted. I noticed something strange about his 4080/12. On the 12-string he's using Gibson Humbuckers. Whereas on mine, there are standard RIC humbuckers. He must have bought it custom-made. Being a die-hard Rush fan, if you guessed that I also own a Gibson EDS-1175 6/12 double neck in Alpine White just like Alex Lifeson ("Lerxst"), you guessed right. I also have an EDS-1275 6/12 double neck in Heritage Cherry (see: Jimmy Page). But that's not important! If there are any die-hard Rush fans who log on to this site, then you must know of the tragic loss Neil has suffered. My prayers are with him. However that which does not destroy him, makes him stronger. Fear not, Rush will back in the studio next month, for what could be the greatest Rush album yet to come. As for my 4001, after all of those years, with previous owners to abuse the hell out of it, it still has that same thunder that Rickenbacker is famous for. The only difference is, unlike its previous owners, I'm not going to be stupid enough to get rid of it. |

Azureglo 1977 4001 Bass |
Comments: This really does the trick. Though I have my 4001 bass for a while I never really gigged it. Wasn't too happy with it's sound. So I used my F. Jazz Bass. A while ago I started thinking about the lack of punch and body of my Rick's sound. My conclusion was it had to be the bridge. The bridge is connected with the body of the guitar by only two small adjustment screws. There is a lot of space between the bridge and the tailpiece/body. I put a copper strip in that space. Now the bridge tightly connected to the tailpiece (by the tension of the strings). The trick worked!! This bass now sounds punchy, with a lot of body and growl. And I maneged to keep it all original! Never heard nor read about this "tone trick". I suppose I'm not the first with this idea. Reactions please. Jan |

Comments: I got THE bass used from a store in Annapolis Md. back in 1984. Ever since seeing a picture of Geddy Lee and Alex Liefson (sp?) of RUSH... and connecting that wonderful sound to that image, I knew I needed a 4001. As for this site. it is very interesting and I have learned alot about not only my bass but the world of Rickenbacker and its devotees. Also I am impressed by the thorough wording and the wonderful art/photos. |

And a lot of othes musicians ask me for this wonderfull guitars; a lot of ( especially younger ) musicians over here did not hear RICKENBACKER! But when I start to list well known ones like Joe Walsh, Peter Buck, Tom Petty... Thank you for a side of the dreams of every guitarist! Hendrik |

Comments: My first "professional" bass was a 74 4001 MG that was subsequently stolen in 77. Replaced that with the 72 4001 JG which was a gift from my father before he passed away. At that point, Rickophobia took over and the collection has grown slightly as you can see. The 72 has basically been retired and the 4001V63 in MG is my axe of choice these days, she gets plenty of use. Fuuny thing is, I picked up the 4001V63 FG last week because "I didn't have one in that color". Any body know a good therapist? |

Comments: I have owned 2 Bass guitars, my 1st is a 1964 Jazz Bass, and it is an awesome Guitar. My wife bought the '65 Rick 4002 and it's a perfect compliment, as the 2 guitars do not sound alike, they don't play the same either. I use the Jazz most of the time, for blues, originals and R&R. I use the Rick when we do covers of British Invasion tunes, Pop music, Sinatra, Bacharach, The Rolling Stones all sound best on a Rick! Listen to Vin Scelsa on the internet 12-3 NYC time. www/artistent.com you'll hear plenty of Rickenbacker's, I guarantee it. Thanks, Dennis Dubrow Oceanport, NJ |
