Re: 4001S 64
I must have missed this one first time around. All the innards are absolutely original. It looks completely original. If it's as straight as you say then it's worth big bucks. How much I ? I'm not up with current prices but I'd start offering it for $ 20k US & negotiate from there. Has VG seen i...

Re: New to the forum, new to basses. 1961 4001 for comment
Rickenbacker must have been a bit of a Custom Shop back then. Pete, not so much. The wood shape was settled by then but the fittings & pickguard were still fluid. The routes will be forstner bit cuts done by hand hence the need for bigger pickguards sometimes. The bridge is still a modded 450 s...

Re: If Rickenbacker had made an electric piano...
Interestingly, Rickenbacker DID make at least 1 electric piano in the thirties, possibly for Harpo Marx. As I understand it, it was an experiment & a 1 off which sat in the showroom (where ever that was) for a few years & never sold.
No one ever new what became of it.

Re: Is my 4001 Truss Rod Original?
I don't want to tread on any toes here or offend but my take is it a fake.
Perhaps the original bass was damaged or broken somehow & the parts were transferred onto a substitute body.
YMMV

Re: Cold enough for you?
I've seen the pics of a frozen Niagra Falls. Just astonishing.
Hope you all are ok in that kind of weather. I find it terrifying.
+45C where I am tomorrow.
In either place, don't have a breakdown in your car on a lonely strech of road

Re: Is Paul McCartney's Rickenbacker bass wired backwards?
My old 64 4001s was wired or fitted or whatever with the switch down for toaster. Also both vol at the top which IIRC is not the normal way. Which suggests the harness went in upside down.

Re: Next 1964 4001 to be restored to its former glory
Hi all, Jeff this bass is a factory s model not a 4000. The routes are factory except for the enlargement of the bridge pickup route. Whoever was on trussrod channel duties in those days made them too long and bigger pickguards were needed to cover the routes. Nice bass. Good luck with the resto. On...
