Re: How To Kill 2 Birds with one stone

That is awesome. Looks almost new.
I'm still waiting to find one so I can try again, for the third time. New saddles are ready and waiting to widen the right hand spacing as much as possible.
Enjoy it!

Re: Questions about some used Rics

Oh, yeah. I'm certain that even the particular tree the wood came from, and even what specific part of the tree can make a difference. Some instruments just sound better, even if they were made on the same day.

And yes, I've got '70s 4001s and 4003s from early to fairly recent (2010). I love the ...

Re: 4000/1/3 vs. 4004 Poll

Owned a 4004Cii/5 for a little while. The previous owner changed the pickups to active EMGs and routed for them. Beautiful bass that I should have kept. I can't compare tone because it wasn't stock for me, but it played great.

Re: I think I need a new nut on my 2012 4003

It will be an easy fix. Buy a few from Rickenbacker or PickOfTheRicks. You can sand the top down until all the pre-cut slots are gone, then space new slots wherever you want.

Re: ’89 MapleGlo 4003, BT, no 19th fret inlay, 3 side dots a

Mystery solved! Rickenbacker is awesome! They emailed me back and stated it was ordered that way. As expected, no mistake, no end of the decade build error, etc. It was a custom order.

With that information, Paul Boyer can now stop by my house on his way to the Superbowl this year and take some ...

I still haven't found another without the 19th fret inlay, except the V63 basses with dots, of course.
There must have been a good reason this was done. I'm looking forward to eventually finding out.

Re: rattling and harmonic

"Fine when fretted" usually means the nut or string angle over the nut is to blame.

The audible harmonic is weird... it may be sympathetic vibration from a truss rod (B is around where they usually vibrate to cause a dead spot). I would address the nut first (it really can't be the bridge or ...

Re: ’89 MapleGlo 4003, BT, no 19th fret inlay, 3 side dots a

Thank you all for the bass compliments. I'm trying to find out more information about it. I like that a few of you posted about similar side dots. Mine also feel factory original. I can slightly feel each one, and they are all the same. They don't appear done after the factory.
The missing 19th fret ...

’89 MapleGlo 4003, BT, no 19th fret inlay, 3 side dots at 12

’89 MapleGlo 4003, BT, no 19th fret inlay, 3 side dots at 12th fret, 2 at 9th fret.
Here is an odd one that I just got. Hopefully somebody has some information about it.
It pretty much plays and sounds exactly like the ’87 FireGlo BT in the pictures for build comparison.
It was built in December ...

Re: What kind of bass amp do you use with your Rickenbacker?

I thought about getting a DB359 (I used to have a DB659) but it's form factor and weight put an end to that, although the Tone Hammer 500 I do have is a pretty killer sounding amp in it's own right. 8) The only tube amp I have at the moment is the Concert Amp which sounds excellent on it's own with ...
