Re: '76 4001 with Dot Inlays and bound body and neck
Ah, makes sense. Especially since the position markers on the fingerboard also appear to be aligned as they would be on a fretted bass. More economical to manufacture too.

Re: '76 4001 with Dot Inlays and bound body and neck
That's a very interesting bass!
Not trying to rule anything out but something comes to mind. The ends of the frets on 4001 basses with bound necks are usually covered by the binding. Here's an example on a 79 4001..

Re: Geddy's New Rickenbacker
Very cool! Wondering if the base model for this is 4003W and if the body wings are walnut. It's about time Geddy got a signature. I guess we'll see if that's the case.

Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
Having owned a fretless 4003 for awhile now, and also having owned several short scale basses (which I much prefer) my wishlist to the elves in Santa Ana would be the following:
A Rickenbacker 4030W-FL (fretless unlined fingerboard)
A Rickenbacker 4005XC-FL (fretless unlined fingerboard in a ...

Tom Evans/Badfinger 4000
There are a few videos on YT of the Tom Evans version of Badfinger, post Pete Ham. Looks like Tom was using a 4000 for a brief time around 1981/82.
Here's a screenshot.. BTW, that's Tony Kaye of Yes on Keyboards.

Re: Old hairpin truss rods
Same experiences here.
A good friend has a '73 4001 that he rescued about 30 years ago. That bass was in really bad shape back then, missing most of its parts with 2 broken truss rods and a severe upbow in the neck. After repairing the broken truss rods (long story) he was able to bring the neck ...

Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
Acquire a vintage TRC.
That looks great Jeff! It would be an acceptable solution, were a V68 or something like it to happen (not holding my breath). I would consider one of the later molded plastic ones as an alternative.
EDIT: looks like I may have improperly lumped the C64 trc in with the ...

Re: Updating the registration of an instrument
I'm in line for a couple updates too. I've been waiting a little over 2 months now. I can only assume there is a fair amount of these waiting to be updated and a very limited amount of resources to do so.

A fretless burgandyglo 4000 is now top of the list.

That's just how my old "69 4001 was routed.
In that era it was all forstner's.
Interesting!
Your '69 seems to indicate that routing technique through the 60s may have fluctuated.
Here is a picture of a fireglo 1968 4001 which shows the routing I am accustomed to seeing. The routing on my ...

1963 4001S routing
There is currently an extremely early 4001S on Reverb bearing the hefty claim of rewriting the history books. I'm not going to post a picture or link to the auction as it's easy enough to find. And I certainly don't want to affect some one's ability to sell their instrument.
But I am curious about ...
