What Bobcat said. I believe it was brought up in this forum some time ago (and probably not for the first or last time) that most of "Moving Pictures" was recorded with Geddy's Fender Jazz bass, but two cuts featured his 4001, namely "Red Barchetta" and "The Camera Eye," if I remember correctly. His ...

My candidate for a very underrated bassist is Andrew Bodnar of the Rumour, a Music Man & Fender Precision player. Not only did he lay down some great stuff backing Graham Parker (e.g., "Don't Ask Me Questions"), but he was responsible for one of the greatest (IMHO) bass performances ever: Elvis ...

The Michael Stanley Band isn't entirely unknown outside of Ohio. My older brother's vinyl record collection still includes the 1976 MSB LP "Ladies' Choice," and the earlier song "Rosewood Bitters" is considered a "KSHE classic" here in St. Louis. (KSHE is a classic rock radio station that's been ...

Just my two cents, but I say go with the Rickenbacker if at all possible.

My guitarist and I have mused about this topic for decades. We've come to the conclusion that we were the neighborhood wonders 30 years ago NOT because we were just so damned talented, but because we started out on ...

The legal age here in Missouri is 21, so there were a lot of lawbreaking teenagers at those parties in the late '70s. And I was there to keep them entertained.

I'm a teetotaler myself, so can you imagine my furor at the smell coming from my case? Blechhhh!

A cover for the 200 series fans. Is that a black 250 El Dorado? It appears azureglo under those lights.

Maybe George Callins could say for sure?

Although I've had cats for decades, they've never managed to get inside my bass case.

However, in 1977, soon after getting my 3001, I was playing at a party when a high school classmate tripped over my empty case and spilled his beer inside. ("Oh, sorry, man! Here's a rag.") The beer left the ...

And for my '76 as well. I think I've seen more 3001s in that color than any other.

I'm afraid us "Yanks" shouldn't get too much credit for the two spot-on accents in "This is Spinal Tap."

Nigel was played by Christopher Guest, born Christopher Haden-Guest in NYC. Guest's mother was American, but his father was English: Peter Haden-Guest, the fourth Baron of Saling in ...

I have a 1976 walnut 3001 (or is it the standard 3001 finish RIC called "matte brown"? I can't tell the difference. Anyway, it looks a lot like Chris Poteat's above) and I would never change anything about the finish...except maybe fixing all of the worn spots on the back.

However, I would love ...

I'm primarily a finger-player raised on Geddy, and I've always loved the clickety-clack of the nails on my index and middle finger when they're on the long side, even before I found out how Geddy uses his nails. (Kismet!)

I've been playing nearly 30 years, but I've never noticed that those two ...

I remember when the artist, Doug Rowell, was auctioning this guitar on eBay in October 2001. He insisted that the guitar body was maple and a model 220, while I told him that the pickups, controls, neck, headstock, and bridge/tailpiece indicated that this was a model 430, which had a mahogany body ...
