Yes, tony, I noticed the "time change" also.

Let me guess: HOB = House of Blues? Who was playing lead at HOB; i.e., which artists attended the anniversary do?

Ric lead guitar siting

Haven't checked in here for a long while but I remember some postings lamenting that few were using the Ric as a lead guitar these days. Check out Milburn, whose "Chesire Cat Smile" video is getting heavy airplay on the local TV Music Video channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHu3c79uM...

Brian,

If you have never seen a Ric in a C&W context, then you must have never seen Gurf Morlix. He used to play guitar with Lucinda Williams, a JetGlo 330. He has played and produced other C&W artists, mostly the Austin-types, not the Nashville-types.

Jon, I see your Laney amp in the background. I've got a Laney also: great tube sound! How does it compare with the Vox?

Don, hello from a fellow Alaskan (Fairbanks) although I am now living overseas (Malaysia). I am going back to Alaska this summer for six weeks -my daughter is getting married in Fbx- but I may be down in the Anchorage area part of that time. What is the name of your band, and where do you normally p...

Actually, the Indonesian language, which is based upon Malay, does have words for 'united'. In Malaysian Malay, the USA is called 'Amerika Syarikat', which is a misnomer since 'syarikat' means 'company'. I believe that it actually comes from the phrase 'masyarakat yang bersatu padu', which means 'a ...

So, Peter, you're saying that RAP (Rationalisation After Purchase) is the solution to GAS (Guitar/Gear Acquisition Syndrome)? I thought that FART (Forget About Retirement Totally) was the solution to GAS.

There used to be a mandolin-maker in Montana called 'Flatiron'. Their least expensive model, A-style, I felt would be an excellent one for beginners because it was not too expensive and yet used a solid spruce top rather than a ply. Those mandolins are very simple and yet beautiful and well-made. No...

I started with a $50 mandolin in 1976, and then upgraded to a $600 mandolin in 1979 (R.L. Givens, now worth ~$3,600 today). Of course the difference is indescribable. The cheap one sounded tinny and I wasn't as prone to practice as I was with the expensive one, which still sounds great; very loud an...

I absolutely love my 360/6 in Midnight Blue. The Blueburst also looks nice, but if I wanted a second guitar I would vote for a Paul Weller Red instead.

Mark, thanks for the 'heads-up' on the book. It sounds interesting and as I was a big fan of the Allman Bros Band I will check it out. I always thought that it was Duane's guitar playing non-stop lead underneath the vocals, but of course, it sounds to me like he is using slide constantly. Seven guit...

Mark, I thought that I knew the difference between Duane's guitar and Eric's guitar on "Layla" because Duane played the slide guitar parts! Am I wrong? Did/does Clapton play slide also? Legend has it (probably an Urban one) that when asked once how it felt to be the world's greatest guitar...

One thing I miss most about the US of A: Austin City Limits. I do miss that wonderful showcase of great music. It was from an ACL show (Gurf Morlix backing Lucinda Williams) that I first decided that I wanted to try a Rickenbacker. Sigh....
