Really nicely played and the Ric sounds amazing !
Its a great song and as many have said already Bruce Thomas was a huge part of Costellos sound. It isnt the same without him. I fortunately got chance to see him twice with The Attractions in the early/mid 90's when they reformed for a tour or two ...

Re: Here we go again
Jeff Rath - I am with you on this !
Sandberg - Yes they have copied the shape of the Ric. However that will be it. It isnt a neck through its a bolt on. It is also active with a 3 band EQ. Basically Its a Musicman Stingray soundalike but with the Ric looks. Is that a copy ? In my opinion no ? Its ...

Re: Direct recording of my two Rics
Things like this are always subjective and a matter of opinion. I personally think Geddy gets a a very Ric like sound from his Jazz. I also would have bet good money that John Wetton was using a Ric (I didnt know he was known for using a 61 Precision at the time) on Wildest Dreams with Asia.

Re: Direct recording of my two Rics
I was quite astounded that the open 78 and the open Geddy sounded so similar ! It has been said before that a Jazz can sound very similar at times to the 4001....look at Geddy himself, I have trouble deciding if he has used the Ric or the Jazz on his earlier stuff !

Re: 4003 Temporary Mods
Charles, I really wouldnt know what the equivalent coin would be for you. You maybe have more options as with our money there was only the 5p coin that would fit in as the diameter was near enough perfect. I think it is a case of slacken the strings, lift the bridge and start trying different coins ...

Re: 4003 Temporary Mods
John - Thanks for explaining what the procedure is regarding the bridge shims (coins or washers etc) in my absence.
Timothy - I think John got it across perfectly without the need for a photo. However if you would like me to add a pic I am quite happy to do so. I think when you look at the bridge ...

Re: 4003 Temporary Mods
Jeff - When you physically twist the polepieces with vice grips (I am assuming this is what we call Mole grips in the UK) do the teeth of the grips chew up and mark the pole pieces? If not how do you achieve this ? Are they easy to shift? and do they stay quite tight after they have been moved ...

Re: 4003 Temporary Mods
I took the 2 small height adjustment screws out of the bridge and installed 2 x 5p coins either side of the base of the bridge. They can't be seen and it makes for a solid interface between the bridge and the tailpiece. This makes for a better transfer of the string vibration. These small mods have ...

Re: can anyone advise me on repairing my trashed 4001?
I had some dealings a couple of years ago when Mike Smith had RicRus and found him to be a really good guy. True... not cheap but he was as good as his word. I know nothing of Rickysounds but doing a comparison between these people and Rosetti I have found that Rosetti's spares are cheaper ! By ...
