The most authentic VOX sound will be gotten with Ei 12AX7s, especially the old smooth gray plate ones. They simply sound great in VOX amps.

I have had similar problems playing in small clubs with old wiring and unshielded motors, refrigeration, etc. I found that using a Furman Power Factor Pro ($230-240 street price) cleans up the AC tremendously and makes your equipment more coherent and harmonically correct.

You may have a blown power trans. Do you have a voltmeter? If so, plug the amp in and measure the AC voltage between the two yellow leads going to the 5Y3GT socket. If you get 0 volts you need a new power. They are available cheap from Antique Electronic Supply, MOJO Music Supply, etc.

I can work on your amp. I have serviced and restored hundreds of tube amps. I have been a professional amp tech since 1989 in the San Francisco area. My rates are reasonable and I give a substantial discount to musicians. I carry lots of original NOS parts and tubes for all types of amps ...

Hey Guys

Sorry for the long absence. I have been involved in a bunch of real estate projects for the last several months. Plus trying to keep my business going. I am now back and will try to answer any tube, amp, electronics questions that I have knowledge or experience with.

Frets on a 360-12.

I have finally purchased what I think is a late 1990s Rick 360-12. IT IS PERfect in every way except there is some fret wear and gouging of frets. Is there anything I can do about this, Fret leveling, new fret job, etc.

Also, How do I determine date of mfg for this guitar. There seem to be no ...

We hope to have between 40-60 vendors. about 25-40 % will be music instrument related, the rest will be new and vintage audio amps, speakers, tuners, etc, parts accessories and tubes. We plan on some live music, presentations on tube history, speaker design, and possibly tube school.

Unfortunately, with New Sensor the Name Goes on Before the quality goes in. I think there are some morale problems at the factory in light of the dire situation that New Sensor is having over there. I have found that most small signal tubes are all over the map when it comes to transconductance ...

HE now has a rock and roll coalition of amp manufacturers and tube sellers calling up embassys and sending nasty letters to Russian officials. I am sure Mike Matthews will come through a winner on this one. He is one tough cookie, plus he has a small army of $850/hr New York attorneys in is corner ...

The tubes should all be tested with a calibrated tester. Many vendors sell bad tubes, they do not even test them before they sell them. Also, you may have a bad reverb tank. The transducers get worn out or broken due to vibration or rough handling.

Lastly, you may have a defective reverb recovery ...

Hi Bob Young

Yes Terry Buddingh, formerly of Guitar Player and now of Guitar Magazine did that article. I remember him driving up for the photo shoot with a BMW 2002 looaded to the limit with about 6 different versions of the SVT heads, those things were huge and very heavy.

Good to hear from ...

Due to many things happening, I am not able to focus on putting out a high quality research journal every three months. There is just too much work to do and distribution is a huge job.

I will probably go to two times a year and subscribers will get two years worth of issues.

Our next ...
