Photos of my Turquoise 660-12
I am re-embarking on a journey as a guitarist, after 15 years as a club-gigging bassist. Along the way, I used some of my gig money to pick up a couple of nice guitars (in addition to too many basses). My smartest choice was probably this green beauty, about 9 years ago (it is a 2004 model 660-12 ...

Re: Back again... Dean version 2.0?
Welcome back!
Music like the rest of life takes it's swings and roundabouts and has it's fair share of flat tyres.. A year off was probably a good move. You are back and ready to roll!
Eden.
Thanks Eden, and others, for the welcome back. You are right about life's swings, but I am in a good ...

Re: Back again... Dean version 2.0?
Welcome back, Dean!
My advice? Rick 12 strings are like nothing else and take some getting used to for many. The important thing is to play it lots until it becomes second nature, an extension of your fingers. Get very comfortable with it. :)
That is good advice, and similar to what I have been ...

Re: Back again... Dean version 2.0?
That's a great guitar to "learn" on! I had a TUR 660/12 myself. Does the wood grain on yours show through the finish? It did on mine. Part of me loved that and part of me hated that. I sold it, so I guess we know which part won!

Re: Back again... Dean version 2.0?
Here is a photo of my 660/12. I need to get better photos of it. What a nice guitar - I need to learn and use it more to do justice to such a beauty.

Back again... Dean version 2.0?
I feel a bit like a ghost from the past... it has been too long since I posted here, and I am very sorry for that. It is good to see so many friends still active here, and I am looking forward to getting involved again, too. This Forum has been so helpful to me in the past that I even gave it a ...

Re: Sloan!
Great band! "Navy Blues" is my favorite Sloan album. Lots of great songs. Love the Rick guitars, too.

Re: What's YOUR attraction to Ricks?
The 4003 was my first real bass guitar, and I chose to buy it because they look cool and my favorite bassist, Geddy Lee, got such great tone out of his back in the 70's.
16 years later, I have Ricks as well as Fender and Music Man in my bass collection, but I keep going back to the 4003. The tone ...

Re: String Advice for My New Rickenbacker
I have tried a lot of strings on my 4003's and prefer either the stock Rickenbacker strings or the Curt Mangan strings specially guagued 45-55-75-105 for 4003's and sold thru the Pick of the Ricks website. I've had a set of the Mangan strings on for 3 months now and am still digging the tone. And ...

Re: Rickenbacker vs Fender (Side by Side)
One very important thing to keep in mind when comparing a J-bass to a Rick, is the feel of the neck. The J-bass has much more taper to the neck (skinny on top, wide at the bottom), than a Rick which has little taper in comparison. The P-bass has less taper than a J-bass, closer to the Rick neck ...

Re: Rickenbacker vs Fender (Side by Side)
My biggest gripe about the Rick is the lack of a thumb anchor above the neck pickup.
it's called the edge of the pickguard; my thumb has been there for years.
Me too! The edge of the Rick pickguard is a perfect thumbrest - I don't know if that was intentional in the design, but it sure ...

Re: Rickenbacker strings
I also really like that string guage set on my 4003's - the 45/55/75/105 set seems to give me my favorite feel and sound. My 4003's are all modern (my oldest one is a 1994), so they have modern truss rods, etc., and neck tension isn't as primary a concern as it might be on a vintage 4001 like yours ...

Re: Death cab for Cutie
Good song - I've liked this one since I first heard it; nice to see a video and a Rickenbacker guitar - thanks!
