Re: John Lennon’s 58 325 at R&R Hall of fame

There are three clues that this is indeed John's 325/58. First, the pickguard is white, as Babiuk describes it was replaced after Lennon ordered the guitar redone back to brown. Second, the brown in question clearly shows streaks of the automotive spray that made it black in the first place. You can...

Re: 360/12c63 - sitar-like twang on a couple of strings

I just saw this post. I have exactly this problem with a new C63 I received summer 2011 (after waiting 3 years!). My setup guy told me the sitar twang was caused by the string buzzing against the front edge of the saddles, which had been cut incorrectly and needed to be filed. After doing this, the ...

Re: 360/12c63

My 360/c12 is in at North Coast Music. Wow. I said it was like pregnancy when I had an e-mail last June that delivery would be in October - but was warned to expect a longer wait. Good advice! It's been 10 months! (poor Mom!)

comment on Glen's vintage C58 Loom

Well I discovered that I had the knobs mixed up and had a pickup turned off, thinking it was a tone control (which, being counter-clockwise, would be full on when turned to the left). Having a pickup turned off can seriously limit your switching options! Glen's Lennon mod is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!...

Re: 325C58 tuning and setup question

Thanks fellers. My tech had already checked for whether the rod was broken or disconnected. He said the neck was bowed and guessed the channel was too high for the rod to contact (or something like that) and performed a heat press, and tells me the truss rod now works! Now all I have to do (with Gle...

C58 Truss Rod

Hello helpful people! My guitar man just told me the truss rod on my 2003 C58 is non-functional and he can only speculate as to why (one possibility could be an improperly routed channel) Anyone heard of this? Is it a common problem? Is it a warranty pronlem? Even if it is, would Rick cover it, me b...

Re: 360/12c63

Thanks Gabriele! it seems there are a whole bunch of us expectant Moms and Dads out there awaiting the stork! Kris; my guess is that a fair number of NCM's waiting list may have dropped out, as many of the orders were placed before the market meltdown. Dan; looks like you're way up in the queue. I h...

Re: 325C58 tuning and setup question

Thanks for the detailed reply Paul! I was aware of the heavy string issue - I realized from looking at my empty string packet that I had changed from the Pyramid 12's to D'adarrio Chrome 13's (perhaps they jangle even less? I've never used them on any other guitar). I will try the Rick 13's - I hear...

325C58 tuning and setup question

Hi folks. I'm unhappy with a setup my regular guitar guy did with my 325/C58 immediately after I got it. I suspect he cut the nut too low (which among other things puts the strings incredibly close to the pups), and it does not seem to ring (chime) quite as it should, even with Pyramid flatwounds wi...

Re: 360/12c63

North Coast e-mailed (and called!) me to ask whether I still want the 360 C63/12 which is due to be manufactured in late October. He asked the wrong question. (the right one would be whether I will be OK after I sell a body part to pay for it!). Gee, it's sort of like pregnancy - knowing when my gui...

Re: John Lennon's usage of his 325s during "Beatles for Sale"

The plot thickens! Beatlesinvasion.com also supports the "Miami Replacement Theory" (MRT) "When John’s second Rickenbacker was dropped during a 1964 Beatles Christmas show, he needed a replacement quickly. Rickenbacker’s exclusive British importer Rose-Morris Ltd. jumped at the opport...

Re: John Lennon's usage of his 325s during "Beatles for Sale"

I was wrong, it wasn't Geoff Emerick. Ray Coleman reports that John used his Rickenbacker 1996 slimline - acquired for "an astronomical $159 guineas at the beginning of 1964" - on the solo on "You Can't Do That". (page 237, Ray Coleman, "Lennon"). According to Coleman, ...
