I bought my early 80's (overseas made) svt for 2 reasons: 1.- It's supposed to have the "original circuit", that is, it's supposed to be THE SVT. Number 2, it was cheaper that the early seventies version with the same circuit. The head cost me 700 bucks.

Mike, actually the place where the bridge is bent would be stiffer, not weaker. Granted, a stiffer piece of metal is more fragile, but unleess the bridge was extremely bent I don't see it breaking. I've done it in two basses so far, without any adverse effect. I'll try to get pics next time!

quick fix: remove the bridge, bend it back (C clamps help), and place bridge again. No need for drilling.

I would keep the one with the best neck. Number two would be the most collectible one, so for me it's the 86 and then the 71.

I think the best way to go is to remain sober. also, when we load and unload there is always a bandmember guarding the car, and another guarding the stage so there's never anything left on its own. I guess it'd be hard in the middle of a denver winter though!

I remember I had one of those black bases. It had a metal plaque that read rickenbacker, exactly like on the silver cases.

I've owned every bassman except for the ones you are asking about! I do currently own a bassman 100 with matching 4x12. It sounds great, except there's a weird little noise I haven't been able to track down/fix. I also found there's little difference between tweed, blonde, blackface, and silverface ...

This talk about tail lift got me thinking a couple of things. I have owned 2 basses with the lift problem. Right now I own only one, an '80 4001s. Anyway, I believe there's something we have all been missing. When Metal is bent, it gains hardness. That's probably the reason why tail lift stops at a ...

well, actually it took me about 2 hours and a lot of effort to get one one of the rods out, tape was holding it in. Also, i took them out from the body end using a vise grip, holding the bass with my legs, and pulling really hard. It took me about half an hou to take the last six inches out, and I ...

well, here´s an update. I had some spare time a couple of days ago (about 5 hours!). Anyway, I removed the rods, straightened them (by hand, pretty tough BTW, and they didn´t actually end up really straight anyway!). Also applied some super glue on both "bases of the rods." Ot was pretty tough ...

Hi there, thanks for your answers. Yes, I was here a while ago and then left the internet!
The rods are definitely not straight, they are curved, but last time I asked here I was told they were supposed to be curved.

Well, when I took the rods out I couldnt thing of a way to get them straight ...

What are the tricks to get a 4003 neck straight??

Hi everyone. It`s been a good while since i last posted in here. anyway, my ric has been sitting in its case for about a year now. Thing is, I can`t get the neck straight. It was driving me nuts so I just put away the bass. Anyway, I was doing some research and then came to some posts about ...
