Re: Proud owner of a Rick again!
I'll post some pics ASAP. It's an '89 Mapleglo 4003s w/black trim. Very similar to johnallg's. While I can appreciate the look of binding and triangle inlays, I've always loved the dots and contoured body. Macca, Roger Waters, and Chris Squire were all big influences on me when I first picked up a ...

Re: To case or not to case
My first ric fell out of the stand sometime during a party and broke her neck [solemn pause]...
But even the newly re-furbished one sits out looking lovely. It is art. I could not hide it. It would cry out.

My 1981 4003 has 8K pups...
I think the 12K pups came quite a bit later...
Does that contradict what you are saying? Or am i missing the point?

Re: Rickenbacker for Funk? Strings?
My 'bad technique' is to 'pull' with my thumb (not slap).... Sounds reasonably close until i try to keep up with Mark King / Level 42...
I will be the first to admit that it is 'hard for me' . You are a 10x better player than i am.
Your results may vary [isn't that legal disclaimer ...

Re: A few Qs about a 1980 4003
When i opened mine up to refurbish it - the truss rods stuck out 'too far' from the neck (about an 1/8" gap) to really have 'doing anything'...
BUT the neck is straight as an arrow (i still snugged them up anyway). And it is still straight.
So maybe it is not a problem....

Re: Rickenbacker for Funk? Strings?
^ I have agreed with EVERYTHING you have said (since i joined/NewB) BUT this.
The MM Stingray is significantly better for slap. I thought i was 'funkless' because i could not learn slap to save my life. I picked up a stingray and suddenly I could do it (& am still learning). I went back to the Ric ...

So.... My 1981 4003 should not have the Ric O Sound (which it does)?
Now more puzzled.

Registration/serial number question
On my jackplate it only says: 2722
When i try to add it to the registration it says invalid s/n (or does it mean i am an invalid? :P )
I see that other s/ns for 4003s of the same vintage have two letters preceeding them...

Re: Scored a 4003 MG!
All good advice (above).
I shoot on the cloudy/low light day and use a fill-flash to brighten it up/eliminate excess shadows.
Use a bounce flash (not just the camera built-in unit) if indoors. I am trying to sell a Metz CL-1 flash & bracket with seperate battery pack and chargers. If you have a ...
