Hi,
I have fitted a set of (7k4) scatter wound toasters to my 1994 330-6.
I have a selection of strings but which would give a more authentic 60's sound?
Strings I have available : -
Rickenbacker compressed round wound set 10-13-17-26-34-42
E.Ball Hybrid Slinkys round wound set 9-11-16-26-36-46
GHS ...

Re: 330 Neck Profile
Having gone through this neck profile thing 12 months ago with a Gibson 335 neck, 50's vs 60's profile, I eventually found out something rather interesting.
I spent ages measuring neck thicknesses at the 1st, 7th and 12th frets on loads of different makes of guitars, some with necks I liked and some ...

Re: 2 sets of Toasters, 3 guitars... what is best and where?
Thanks for the in-depth reply, very much appreciated.
I now just have to find the time to install them, maybe try out a few combinations of guitars and pickups.
The odd thing is that all 3 guitars sound and feel different.
In order of preference, it’s the 360, 330FG then the 330MG.
I must admit ...

2 sets of Toasters, 3 guitars... what is best and where?
OK,
I now have 4 scatter-wound Toasters : -
7.40k
7.36k
7.19k
7.12k
I also have 3 Ricks : -
1994 330-6 FG
1996 360-6 MG
2008 330-6 MG
Which pickups in what positions on which guitars?
Any other "mods" needed, caps replaced, pots replaced etc.
Strings will probably be Rickenbacker Compressed ...

Re: Flat fret tops on a 660/6...
Hi, and welcome to the forum.
I have just checked on my newest 330 (made February 2008) and yes they are flat topped, about 1/3 of the fret width in the centre is flat and not crowned and rounded as you would come to expect with most other makes.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: JB vs JB2
Nowadays, nearly the same thing is available from POTR as a made-up set.
And all in one set with no mix/matching.
Hi,
I have just checked out strings on PotR's site and found these Curt Mangan Custom strings in Pure Nikel and Wound Nickel, are these the ones?
Pure Nickel 12 string set for $11.95 ...

Re: JB vs JB2
Thanks for that, much appreciated.
I thought they must take batteries but I had failed to find it in writing anywhere, (I probably didn't look hard enough).
And thanks for the clarification on the "pin-positive polarity issue"... obvious once you know isn't it.
Cheers

Re: JB vs JB2
This may sound like a rather stupid question but do Jangleboxes take batteries or are they just run from a 9v mains adapter?
And while I am at it... what's this "pin-positive polarity issue" all about then?
Cheers

Re: JB vs JB2
Running Man: don't overlook flat wound strings in the quest for the tone.
I do tend to use Rickenbacker strings on the Burns 12 (even given their price, I still use them) and have recently bought 10 sets of GHS 9-42 Precision Flatwound strings which up to now I have only used on my ES335 and not ...

Re: JB vs JB2
I never have played a double six. And so I'm a little dubious that you could get the same chime & jangle from it, since that sound depends on having octave strings.
Well here's a pic of it.
Have a look at the headstock and see if you change your mind.

Re: JB vs JB2
I own the JB1, and if you want that Byrds sound, it gets close enough for my money.
It appears that the JB2 is a little more adjustable than the JB1. By that I mean you can (apparently) make finer changes in the sounds you can get, and more quickly, too. I say "apparently" because I don't own one ...
