Re: What the Heck?

Wow I can afford like 10 of those brand new instead of 1 of those stupid ancient 70's one.

It's weird but there appears to be a vintage instrument value appreciation for Ric fakers as well as legit Rics. Ibanez fakers going for over $1,000 in some cases. Who'da thunkit.

That's ludicrous, and I ...

Re: Advice for buying vintage gear online?

Wow that is really beautiful. What year 4001 is that, that you orignally purchased it for $1350, especially with the checkerboard?

Re: Advice for buying vintage gear online?

Being a huge jerk and double posting in my own thread AGAIN since I've gotten such good advice here (as well as the one I posted in "general", asking about respectable online dealers). I actually found a brand new 4003 jetglo for a grand total of $1734 with shipping included. Does that sound like a ...

Re: Player or Collector?

I'm mainly a player, although I've kinda become a collector recently... mainly because I can't so no to a good deal, even if it's an instrument I don't even play. If I think I might need something someday and it's cheap I'll totally buy it!

Re: Have you met anyone famous?

I met Marilyn Manson once in a strip club, he was a really intelligent friendly guy, and I really liked him despite the fact that my girlfriend was giving his bassist Twiggy Ramirez a lap dance at the time.

Re: Rickenbacker vs Fender (Side by Side)

I tend to tear into the strings pretty hard on a fender when I'm using my fingers and play above the neck pickup as well, and still get clank with higher action that I always need to EQ out. Hopefully this isn't too huge a problem with rics, I'm gonna have to try one with out the horseshoe pickup ...

Re: New Rickenbacker Specs?

I just tried out a couple brand (just out of the box) new 4003's a couple days back and they were thin necked. Not sure what the manufacturing date really was on them though but one would assume they were new due to the backlog.

Re: A list of reputable dealers?

I actually went into Haight Ashbury Music (I live in SF), and although I love the people who work there, the guy who runs the place marks stuff up so extensively that nobody I know ever shops there unless they absolutely have to. Too bad cause I really want to support local music businesses (we've ...

Re: facebook

It's weird because I've been a facebook user for quite awhile, adding and interacting with my actual friends (and cute girls that I wanna be new new friends with, of course) and BAM! One friend from high school finds me and there's suddenly a flood of people adding me whom I thought I had left ...

Re: New Rics vs Old

Some tests have shown that vibration is a factor in the aging/better tone process, as in playing the instrument. So, you better be out there in the sun playing the bass constantly; don't forget you sunblock, hat and sunglasses.

My '73 is considerably lighter in weight than the '08, sometimes I ...

Re: New Rics vs Old

On a similar vein, when exactly is a ric considered vintage and not just old?
That, in itself, can be a very long and heated debate!

Yeah I keep feeling like 1973 is considered some sort of special year, although I'm not sure why that is outside of the fact that they were doing ...

Re: New Rics vs Old

On a similar vein, when exactly is a ric considered vintage and not just old? I'm seeing a 1985 white 4003 that cost 1895 as opposed to a new jetglo ric priced a couple hundred less. Is this just a matter of color or is the age of the wood likely to be a factor in tone?
