Re:
If you want your bass to be like McCartney's bass was with the beatles then leave in the capacitor and use flatwound strings ... If you want your bass to be Like the "Wings" bass then remove the capacitor and put in a 4003 high gain ... It’s a common thought that McCartneys post 1975 Rick...

Re: In praise of La Bella Low Tension Flats
The Ltf set really sounds great pick-played on a fretted Rick. I tried a set for awhile on my defretted Cii,which sounded really nice, but i replaced them with the Optima RB set, which seem to have a bit more lively upper range. If thr ltf strings hadn't been cut for the Rick,i would be trying them o...

Re: Reshaping a C64S
Great post. I agree with the origin poster... the C64 is not a good body shape... I’m the same, a huge wings fan, think Rockshow dvd/wi gs over America love album. With regards to some earlier comment on the horseshoe being ripped out. McCartney never ever used the horseshoe pickup. His Beatles tone...

Re: Optima flatwounds 4440
Hi guys. These strings are available as I begged Optima to make them for me. I got in touch with the owner of Optima strings in November last year and I asked if they can make me some sets based on the old Maxima/Ric Strings. He said that he still had the original spec/build sheets for the original ...

Re: The Famous Ric/Maxima S4440 Flatwound
I don't know? Is that same set I purchased (Optima 4099), but my first set which are definitely more flexible, were in the older packaging so I was wondering if they changed the construction. Hope not. Unless the others were just bad sets but seems strange to get two sets the same. Have any other op...

Re: The Famous Ric/Maxima S4440 Flatwound
Amazing. I've used TIs a lot in the past but last years or so I purchased a set of Optima 4099 flats as I had heard they were very similar in feel and tone to the original maximas. Well... When I put the Optimas on my 4003 I loved them, the sound was perfect, that E string was exactly as I wanted. T...

Ah.... Did you buy that set on Canadian eBay for $140 a couple weeks ago? I did see those. Nice one!!
I'm just trying to decide what to put some of these on... Definitely the C64S for sure! Can't wait to test run these

The Famous Ric/Maxima S4440 Flatwound
So... It's not everyday you find a shop that has 11 boxes of sealed vintage Rickenbacker S4440 Flatwounds they are just taking up room in the store and they want to get rid of... but today that happened to me... SCORE!!!!!! I'd like the know the gauge of the S4440 set, I've heard that it was 112/77/...

Re: The great flatwound comparison
I've been using TI flats for years on my ricks, mainly because of their kindness to the necks and because people say they nail the McCartney sound. I really feel they don't and listening to this sample confirms that. (baring in mind that the sound clip is just using the toaster with tone rolled back...
