I'll second the SVT recommendation and add the SVT-4PRO. I've had mine a few months and love it! It was a tough decision between these two amps. The higher power and slightly tighter tone won me over with the -4PRO.

I tried out a Sunn 300T...apparently one of the last ones around this area. It's ...

Hey Banta...small world, I thought I recognized your name on Harmony Central. And here I figured I'd get more opinions....;-)

You might be disappointed to read that I finally decided upon the SVT-4PRO and the PR-410HLF cabinet. I played this and the SVT-CL/SVT810E for about three hours in the ...

SVT4PRO w/4003 ?

It's finally time to upgrade my rig. I've got a 4003 to which I've added the .0047 cap and needless to say I'm going for the Chris Squire type sound.

I think I've got my choice narrowed to either an SVT-CL or SVT-4PRO. While the -CL has the "tone", the 4PRO seems pretty damned close (no?), and ...

Thanks Gary, I didn't find the reviews there the first time I looked (brain fart, no doubt), but in reading them, noise certainly sounds like a problem. I wonder if that's a defect or if it's a user error, since the opinions are either "it's quiet" or "it's unusable it's so noisey".

Presonus BlueTube Preamp?

This is a stereo tube (12ax7) preamp for mic's and instruments. It's only $149...for a stereo tube unit that's a steal if it's any good. I've never seen it in any stores around me. Anyone tried it or heard anything good about it?

Your handle would seem to indicate you live in Arizona? If so, perhaps the low humidity was a factor in your run of bad luck with necks.

I'm sure the factory will be able to take care of this for you. It's nice that Ric has factory warranty service. It's one of the things I dislike about Fender ...

I've heard that if the action is too low, the pickup's magnetic field causes too much pull on the string and can dampen it somewhat. I never suspect to that extent though. Glad it's all worked out!

Charlie, that's exactly why they changed the trussrod assembly. I doubt Ric would try to deny a warranty claim because of non-OEM strings.

Bass Amp Search

I've been looking for a new rig to replace my Workingman's 15. I've gotten a lot of great tips here in the past few weeks...thanks guys!

In my search, I came upon a new but obviously long-unsold Sunn 1200S head. It sounded great, and could be a good start for my new rig. It certainly has the ...

Joey,

You're absolutely right. I just looked at zzounds.com, where I had 'seen' them for $199. They're $299. Damn, I knew it was too good to be true.

But still a lot less than the real thing. Decisions, decisions. I need to try one out next to an SVT

Take a tip from the cops...the best way to add your SS# or other ID is to get some metal stamps and (gently) stamp the wood with your mark. Even sanding won't remove them, as the wood fibers crush and the numbers remain legible a ways down into the wood. The same principle is used to ID guns that ...

Hmmm, so I should be able to get:

2 Bass RBI's - $400
1 Crown UT1010 - $400
1 SKB rack case - $125

and for 925 bucks I've got very SVT-like sound and more power, in a compact stereo rig? Sounds way too good to be true, considering a pair of real SVT's run $3,000. Make me a believer...my ...

So Don, are you saying that I can catch bass on my bass boat, but that I can't play with my bass? Hmm, that would explain the guy telling me he could tune a piano, but couldn't tuna fish. I really think this whole discussion is baseless.
