Re: 1980 4001 FG
He lives in an apt. building now, so I don't think playing an electric bass is in his future! He's just now finally getting motivated to offload stuff he's been holding onto for years (coins, the guitar, various collectibles)...I only came here trying to help him. ('cause that's what good ...

Re: 1980 4001 FG
Neither of us really knows squat about guitars
No offense, but I always find this a very interesting comment when someone owns a nice instrument. How did you and/or your BF come into possession of this bass if neither of you know anything about it? Just curious about how this works. 8)

Re: 1980 4001 FG
I took all the advice & appreciate it. I'm just trying to help out my BF, as forums & such are NOT his thing. I really just came back to post an update & see if anyone had any additional thoughts. Bottom line is he's not desperate enough to sell it for 1300. Also, some of you thought it was worth ...

Re: 1980 4001 FG
Just wanted to post an update. We took the bass to another store yesterday (in Brooklyn, NY), and the guys almost lost their minds when they saw it. They offered $1300, which my BF declined. Is it wrong to think we could get around $2K for it if the store offered $1300, given that they supposedly ...

Re: 1980 4001 FG
The other thing is that we would be first-time sellers on ebay, so our "positive feedback" rating would be zero!

Re: 1980 4001 FG
What ever you do, don't sell it to a music store unless the Mafia is after you for money. They will always low ball you. And make up excuses like the tuning peg just to lower the price. It's a very nice looking bass. Clean and vintage. Also, list it for sale on here in the Market area. its ...

Re: 1980 4001 FG
You can say in the ad.... No returns. Sold As is. But, if the buyer complains to Ebay that the item is not as it was described, then Ebay will reach out to you and in the end could make a judgement for you to refund the money. But looking at the pics of this Bass, that's not gonig to happen. It's a ...

Re: 1980 4001 FG
I know.... Maybe you guys can clear this up for me...If you sell on EBay & the buyer decides they don't want it, what happens?Happyface wrote:If it truly has never been played, you will leave a lot of money on the table selling it to retail store.

Re: 1980 4001 FG
Why not just put it on E-Bay? Any local guitar store needs to cover their overhead, so they have to pay you less than it's worth retail. Check out similar models on E-Bay and price in the mid-range of what you see, and it'll be gone right quick.

Appreciate the responses. Another store quoted 1100-1400 based on the pics. Will try to bring it in on Saturday.

Re: 1980 4001 FG
I attached a photo. Hope it comes through. He really doesn't want to deal w/selling it on ebay & he went to a store today & they offered him $1,000, which he declined.

1980 4001 FG
Hi. Hoping you guys can guide me in the right direction. My boyfriend has a 1980 4001 FG that has never been played & is interested in selling it. Any idea what kind of ballpark figure he should be asking for it?
Thanks,
Lisa
