Re: Discolored truss rod cover

Thanks for all the replies. I'm probably better off buying a white one. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, though.
I've refurbished Gibson & fender pickguards before but the TRC is a different material. I wouldn't mid the cream on a darker guitar but I don't care for it on mapleglo.

Discolored truss rod cover

I have a Ric truss rod cover from the 60s that is supposed to be white but is actually a very cream /mint color. I don't recall Ric ever making a cream TRC.
Is it possible that it could be restored to white with sanding/buffing/repainting? Just wondering. I'd rather not have to buy another on ebay.

Kluson tuners with treaded bushings

Hello everyone! Haven't been here for a while. I have a 1985 360-12 with some busted tuners. They're Kluson Deluxe with a very square back and threaded post inserts (like Grovers). I've never seen these before and can't seem to find any replacements. The ones in the RIC Boutique look like the ones t...

Re: Substandard bridge

I had this problem when I ordered some new saddles for my 4001. John Hall suggested KYNstick tape. It worked great. No problems since.

Vote for Beyond Veronica

My band, Beyond Veronica, has made it into the final 10 bands in the 'Underground Garage' Girl-led battle of the bands. The top 3 bands will play the finals in Times Square - New York City and compete to...

Re: Bartolini Replacement Pickups question

My 4001 had some Bartolini's in it when I got it. They sounded OK but not at all like a Rick should sound.
If you want your Rick to sound more like a Spector/Tobias/Modulus/whatthehellever than the Barts would be a good replacement. But if you want it to sound like a Rick stick with the rick pickups.

Re: Has anybody stripped their RIC fretboard?

While not a guitar, my 4001 had the FB stripped when I got it. Personally, I didn't like the feel. The main problem was that the inlays and, to a lesser extent, the wood did not hold up very well without the finish. The inlays were very dull and worn from the strings. They are not mother of pearl li...

Re: Replacing the truss rods?

That is good relief so it might not be the neck itself. Have you had your frets leveled? Older Rick frets are not a picture of precision and could easily account for that. The rods should be snug but not wedged in there. You should be able to move them by hand fairly easily. Brand new frets as a ma...

Re: Can't hear my bass!

I'll throw something else in here. My guess is that it is probably the room more than the amp. If the room isn't treated with some sort of bass trapping the low end is going to be muddy and undefined. Adding mids and cutting lows will help but may not be enough. I had to make several bass traps and ...

Re: Replacing the truss rods?

I'm actually wondering now if maybe my channel IS too deep. My rods slide in and out faily easily and I do seem to have to have them really cranked down to get the neck straight. I can still only get it to a relief of about .004 which isn't too bad. I'm using D'Addario XL170s. Extra tape might help ...

Ashdown ABM. I used to use a vintage Ampeg V4. This sounds just as good and weighs 60 pounds less!
Oh, and Sir Paul likes them too.

Re: Replacing the truss rods?

The rods in my '75 seem to fit fairly tight but if the channels were too deep how would you go about fixing it so the rods would work correctly?
Just curious.

Re: 4001 restoration

Thanks guys. I always liked this bass but it really kicks *** now. Well done, Kirk! Did you thin out the top horn at all? It looks kinda thin for a '75. No, I didn't do anything to it. It appears that a previous owner had shaved down the back of the neck a bit as I had to even it out. Nothing drasti...
