Re: My 4003 arrived

It is a well-known but seldom admitted fact that stock Ric bridges are the worst bridges in the history of bass guitars. Tail lift is just one in a myriad of potential malfunctions you may have to deal with in the future. If you're interested in actually playing the 4003 (as opposed to just using it ...

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't stand having bridge lift on my Rick. It constantly bothered me that cheap Peavey basses have more reliable bridges than the Rick bridge. The saddles on mine wiggled around, fell off, and everything. I got that Hipshot replacement and it had all the same problems ...

One thing I noticed is how he said he used the Rick on Limelight. I had always thought that was the Fender. I suppose his memory could be foggy on that but I could be wrong too. I think it's high time we figured out just exactly which bass he used on each song from Moving Pictures. Does anyone know ...

I'd be willing to bet that Geddy knows about the old 4001 capacitor removal trick. After all, he was, for many years, one of the leading RIC players. It seems to me he'd have at least heard of people removing the capacitors (although I suspect he may have done it to some of his own basses).

Cool Chris Squire video

Found a video of Yes back in 1975 in which Chris Squire is playing one of only two wavy headstock 8 string 4001 basses. I recognized it cause John Entwistle owned the only other one and put a nice pic of it in his book, Bass Culture. It's unusual in that your pick would hit the lower string first on ...

My '05 4003 isn't particularly valuable (as far as Ricks go anyway), nor is it very useful as a collector's piece (due to heavy customizations) but I can't imagine ever selling it. It's my first and only Rick, which gives quite a bit of sentimental value to me.

that novatone thing sounds nightmarish...and they make it sound like a desirable feature. I can't imagine ever doing that, especially to a Rick.

wow I got my 4003 new in 2005 for $1179. that's crazy that they're going up so much. If I were the RIC company I'd be a little concerned about staying competitive with such high prices.

Yea I can't picture Lemmy actually using that goofy thing. After all, he has stated that the main reason he uses Ricks is because he loves how they look.
